Entrepreneurial Social Enterprise

Social enterprise is business that operates for a community benefit. By providing job opportunities and training in a real business, we help marginalized youth develop critical life skills and character in a supportive community. By encouraging entrepreneurial ideas and action, we help them see new possibilities for the future.

Self-Sustainablity

We want to move our kids as quickly as possible from recipients of charity or public assistance to self-sufficient, contributing members of our community. As a non-profit organization, we want to move ourselves in the same direction. We want to capitalize on the entrepreneurial spirit of our IKE “family” and develop business operations that serve as:

  1. The training mechanism for positive youth development, and
  2. The primary source of funding for Isaac’s Room. The kindness of our donors is treated as an investment that gets us to the point where we earn our own keep.

Faith in Action

Isaac’s Room is a faith-based organization whose mission comes from a biblical calling. Our effort springs from a collective devotion to the clearly articulated concerns of God: to father the fatherless, the pure religion of looking after orphans in distress and guarding against polluted thinking or habits, and the establishment of his kingdom of justice and mercy. Our strength is formed and our energy is sustained in personal discipleship to Jesus. We also find it helpful to make the following two distinctions in articulating our approach to faith and mission as an organization.

Let Your Game Do the Talking

Our “game” is faith in action, not faith in proclamation. We believe in the importance of proclamation of the love of God and his saving grace and power, but we also believe that this is not our role in the Body of Christ. The purposes of Isaac’s Room are not evangelistic. We don’t practice what we preach – we practice without preaching. We are dedicated to salt-of-the-earth-style ministry, a ministry built not on words but on lots of salty cleansing, disinfecting, healing, preserving, flavoring work in our community.

Community Partnerships

We partner with any person or organization, regardless of any faith affiliations, to better accomplish our mission to restore community through real investment in young people. No confession of faith is required for employment, volunteering, or board membership at Isaac’s Room. There are, however, at least two ways that faith is a “fact-of-life” at Isaac’s Room:

  1. You must have faith in the kids, that they can heal, change, and grow, and
  2. You must be amicable to working with people of faith, and in an environment where open expression and discussion of faith are encouraged.
